HISTORY
Baao Central School is situated at the town proper of the Municipality of Baao. The town of Baao comprises 30 barangays, of the 30 barangays 7 are found in the urban center, 10 are found in semi-urban barangays and 13 are found in the rural areas of the municipality. The estimated population of the municipality is 47,530 inhabitants.
Baao is considered as the land of rice and coconut palm, arts, pretty women and early cradle of Catholicism in Camarines Sur. Tradition says that BAAO earned its name from the turtle-shaped ancient site of Binanuaanan and Layoan where the Spaniards found the early Baao folk which then formed as part of the adjacent town of Bula. BAAO o “Bao” is supposed to derive from the turtle itself due to abundance in the vicinity of turtles. Today, Baao is classified as a Fourth Class Municipality.
Baao Central School is located in Sta. Cruz, Baao, Camarines Sur along the national road. It is about 1 km. away from the town proper and it is accessible to any kind of land transportation. Presently, this barangay has 7 zones and is composed of peace loving constituents. As a whole Sta. Cruz, is a progressive community which is attributed to the active participation of the people in the barangay. It continuously supports the programs and projects of the school.
HISTORY OF BARANGAY STA. CRUZ
Being situated at the eastern side of the town proper, the place is commonly called IRAYA. But accordingly Sta. Cruz got its name from the HOLY CROSS, because people believed that the body of water forming Qui Palna Lagoon resembles the body of water in the Catholic Faith story “In Search of the Holy Cross” where the Holy Cross was thrown into.
Most of the people in the community owned vast tracts of rice lands along and the rice fields at the Balete at San Francisco. The reason, two waterwheels called LA Gumba are built therein to facilitate peeling of the palay.
Enthusiasm in the hearts and minds of the people of Sta. Cruz as regards the Holy Cross remained; it is believed the reason why Barangay Sta. Cruz is regarded as the most fortunate of all barangays in the municality. Its religious adherence to the Holy Cross aside from the good traits of the people, respectful attitude towards elders and women and fellowmen, cooperative, forgiving, humble but not yellow when red is due.
